Newtown Friends Meeting

Committee Web Pages

Since Newtown Monthly Meeting has no professional, paid staff, the life of the meeting depends on voluntary involvement and commitment.  The Meeting's committees ensure the continuity of the Spiritual, as well as the Operational, goals of the meeting.

Each of the Meeting's Committees can add specific pages to the web site.  Please contact the "Web Clerk" (web @ newtownfriendsmeeting . org) if you'd like to add something.

Climate Action Item for March, 2007

CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY, AND THE PEACE TESTIMONY

Context:  At Annual Session in March, PYM will continue its focus on the Peace Testimony that began at a Called Session in November.  Since then, scientists have reported that climate change is known to be occurring more rapidly than expected.  Furthermore, two of the nation's leading oil experts say they believe the world has already reached "peak oil" production, and that it will soon become impossible to supply as much oil as is now being used.

Query:  How does the prospect of turmoil and conflict due to climate change and diminishing oil supplies affect our understanding of living in the virtue of that life and power that takes away the occasion for all wars?

The minute recently approved by Monthly Meeting in response to a request for discernment on issues concerning climate change.

An environmental sustainability checklist.
