Newtown Friends Meeting

Newtown Friends Meeting, located on Court Street in Newtown Pennsylvania, is an active place of worship, and one of the largest Quaker meetings in Bucks County.  It thrives with approximately 250 adult members and attenders.

Over 60 children participate in our children’s First Day School (Religious Education) program at 9:45 on most Sunday mornings.  We instruct children in the Bible, Quaker history and Quaker ideals.  Their schoolrooms adjoin a well-stocked library.

Adults meet at the same time, 9:45 a.m., for Adult First Day School.  We stimulate our spiritual lives through study of the Bible, tolerance, non-violence, our peace testimony, the complexity of the 21st century world, and God’s role in our daily life and in the lives of others.  Recent series have included members of the Meeting discussing their art and professions in "Quakers in the Arts,"  a George School religion teacher leading discussions on "George Fox, Early Friends and the Bible," and various Meeting members on the topic of  "My Spiritual Journey". 

At 11 a.m. (10 a.m. in summer) we settle into worship, children and adults alike.  After 20 minutes, most young children leave for supervised activities.  Adults stay for around an hour, centering our thoughts, attempting to reach a spiritual center that nourishes us, soothes us, and inspires us. Sometimes a person stands and shares a message that she or he feels compelled to share.  At other times we sit quietly absorbing the power of God within us, gathering the strength and love we find by being among other seekers.

Newtown Friends Meeting welcomes you to join us for worship and First Day School classes. Meetings for worship are held every Sunday.  Adult and children’s classes are held at 9:45 on the second, third and fourth Sunday of each month during the school year.  No First Day School classes are held on the first Sunday of the month; we have a community meal after meeting for worship instead.  See our schedule for current details.
