Suggestions for the Chandler Hall Service

Click here for Worship Service and Song Titles.

It helps if someone acts in a clerk or minister role.

I suggest you start by walking around introducing yourself as people arrive and shaking their hands.

Than start the service by introducing yourself as from Newtown Meeting and provide a little explanation---  i.e. we will sing 4 hymns today and have several readings, say the lord’s prayer and have silent worship etc.

Then announce each activity before you start.  “Turn to hymn 39, now we will say they lords prayer, now I am offering you a poem or reading from George Fox or the bible”

I am attaching two outlines (Service 1 and Service 2) to give you an idea what I have done in the past.  Please feel free to do what you are comfortable with.

The point is--- to help all involved know when they are expected to do their part and so the elderly worshipers have some idea of what is going on

I know the people love what is familiar-- especially the hymns and the Lords prayer.  Long periods of silent worship can be confusing to some of the worshipers, so I think reading Pendle Hill pamphlets, a favorite poem,  a favorite Quaker writer or passage from the bible makes the service more enjoyable to the worshipers

Thank for your good service to the meeting.  The people at Chandler Hall appreciate the care they get from our meeting
