Worship and Ministry Annual Report
November 2008 to November 2009
This is the annual report for worship and ministry
covering the time period from November 2008 to November 2009. We had a very busy year. Sadly our work
included four memorial services; Mary Kester on March 7 , 2009 at Penn Hall, at Pennswood Village, Kingdom
Swayne on May 30, 2009 at George School Meeting House, Madeline Kroekel on July 16, 2009 at Newtown
Meeting House and Betsy Appelbaum- November 22, 2009 at Newtown Meeting House.
We
offered seven Sundays at Seven on October 19, November 9 in 2008 and on January
11, February 8, March 8, April 19 and June 14 in 2009 in an effort to enrich
the spiritual life of the meeting. On
the second Sunday of each month one member of worship and ministry would
prepare a reading or essay to simulate Friends discussion through worship
sharing. These were 2 hour programs offered at 7:00 pm and were attended by approximately
6 -10 people each session.
Worship
and Ministry offered ten First Day Meetings for Worship at Chandler Hall for
five Sundays in November 2008 and five Sundays in August 2009. Chandler Hall residents were very
appreciative as usual and a highlight was when Roseanne
Edenhart-Pepe’s
mother was present at the service where Roseanne provided the music.
We
continue to send a member of the committee once a month to Pennswood Worship. Thank you to Edith Gowen for her faithful
service in scheduling 12 people to attend monthly every year for this activity. We feel the meeting is so successful that we
plan to lay this task down if Pennswood agrees with us
There
continues to be on ongoing discussion in worship and ministry as to how to
enrich the worship on Sundays. To that
end, we asked to be on the Adult First Day schedule for 3 Sundays; October 25
November 8 and 22 in 2009. On October
25, 2009, Session I, we invited Debra Cooper from PYM to present on mindful
mediation as a method for reaching the inner light. Debra Cooper explained mindful mediation and
then gave the audience a brief experience which many friends found meaningful. The second session on November posed queries
about individual worship. Friends shared their own spiritual lives in small
groups through worship sharing. The third
session on November 22 focused on corporate worship using the same format.
Worship
and Ministry coordinated and organized the December 21, 2008 Christmas Eve program,
the December 28, 2008 Homecoming program and the Easter service on April 12,
2009. We had our annual meeting with
Care and Counsel on April 14, welcomed new members to the meeting and sent
W&M members to the attenders gathering.
